Our Host Selection Process
It is an extremely important job to find the right hosts for the right student. At Loxdale, we are lucky to have been in this area of Brighton & Hove since 1979, building up a large bank of wonderful hosts. The process includes regular visits, communication, police checks, references, fire safety information, and gas safety certificates. The feedback from past students is also important in our choice of whether to use a host.
The most important thing when we choose hosts is that they will make our students feel welcome and at home and have a friendly and comfortable home. We also choose hosts who live within a 28-minute walk from the school and on easy bus routes. Our welfare team is always available to support students throughout their stay.

Important Notes for Younger Children
Students aged 8–11 in homestay: Students in this age group must have the daily transfer service included (covered in the higher homestay rate of £400/week). This ensures your child is safely transported between their homestay and the school each day by our DBS-checked drivers.
Parents staying with children: If your child is aged 8–12 and you wish to come with them, we can arrange for you to stay together with a homestay host — provided you are also studying English. The parent is responsible for taking their child to and from school each day.
12-year-olds: If your child is 12 years old and you feel they are responsible enough to walk to and from school independently, they can stay in standard homestay accommodation.

"My accommodation was really good and comfortable because my host family was really kind and helpful and also I spoke a lot with my family… I felt at home."
On-Site Residential Accommodation
We highly recommend that students aged 8–14 live at our on-site residential centre during the summer programme. Our experienced staff live there with the students to care for and supervise them. They look after them as if they were their own children and make sure they are available to speak with them at any time. Living in this relaxed environment means children have time and space to increase their confidence when speaking English.
Our residence is small with a maximum of 18 students, so it feels more like a large homestay — welcoming, fun, and safe. Learn more about our safeguarding standards.
