How you prepare for IELTS at Loxdale

We don't run a separate IELTS-only course — instead, exam preparation is built into the courses themselves. On Intensive English (25 lessons, 18.75 hours a week) the morning classes build the grammar, vocabulary and fluency that IELTS measures, and the afternoon focus sessions include exam skills for IELTS, Cambridge and other proficiency exams.

For targeted work on your weakest paper — Writing Task 2, Speaking Part 3, reading speed — add One-to-One lessons at £60.00 a lesson (or £55.00 a lesson when you book 11–40 lessons a week). Your teacher plans each 45-minute lesson around your target score.

If you are already at an advanced level, our Advanced English classes (C1–C2) develop the academic language and precision that the higher IELTS bands demand.

Which course is right for you?

It depends on your current level, your target score and how long you have. The free online level test tells us where you stand, and we recommend a pathway from there.

    • Intensive English — 25 lessons a week, exam skills in the afternoons, from £350.00 a week out of summer (£400.00 in summer)
    • General English + One-to-One — 20 group lessons plus private exam coaching, from £260.00 a week plus £55.00 a lesson
    • Advanced English (C1–C2) — for candidates aiming at bands 7 and above

    What it costs

Beyond the course fee, budget for the £100.00 registration fee, course materials (£37.00 per 10 weeks out of summer), and the exam itself. IELTS and Cambridge exams are sat at an external test centre, and the exam fee is £165.00 to £260.00 — we help you choose a test date and complete the booking.

Use our price calculator for a full quote for your dates, including accommodation if you need it.

    What score do you need?

Most UK universities ask for an overall IELTS score of around 6.0 to 7.0, with minimum scores in individual papers — but requirements vary, so always check with the university, employer or licensing body you are applying to.

As a rough guide, an IELTS 6.5 sits around CEFR level C1 and an IELTS 5.5 around B2. Your result on our free level test gives a realistic picture of how far you are from your target.

    Frequently asked questions

Do you run IELTS classes in Brighton?

What IELTS score do UK universities ask for?
Most UK universities ask for an overall score of around 6.0 to 7.0, often with minimum scores in each paper. Requirements differ between institutions and courses, so check with the university you are applying to.
How long should I prepare for IELTS?
It depends on your current level and your target score. Take our free online level test and we will give you an honest estimate of how many weeks you need. Students preparing for an exam date often add daily One-to-One lessons in the final weeks.
Where do I take the IELTS exam, and what does it cost?
IELTS exams are held at external test centres, not at the school. The exam fee is £165.00 to £260.00, paid to the test centre. We help you choose a date and complete the booking.
Can I combine a group course with private exam lessons?

    When can I start?
Students at B1 level or above can start any Monday, year-round. Our free online level test confirms your level before you book.
