MORE THAN JUST ENGLISH

Social Activities at Loxdale

An exciting social and cultural calendar … it’s not all work!

At Loxdale we offer our students a fantastic social programme. We make sure you have every opportunity to socialise with your fellow students and enjoy a wonderful social life. You will also get to know the teaching staff outside the classroom environment.

On-site facilities

The School pavilion* and sports hall (both on the School site) are open for students to use Monday to Thursday in the evenings, between 17:30 and 21:00. Here you can play pool, table tennis, board games, sports, watch TV or a DVD or just relax and chat to friends in a comfortable common room. Number of our students also join local sports teams, clubs, societies or choirs. This gives students an excellent opportunity to meet more local people and to practise their English in a natural setting.

*This facility is not available for adults during the summer.

Afternoon activities

Various activities are organised by our Social Manager such as sports competitions, visits to local museums, arts and crafts, baking, and local trips to Beachy Head, Lewes, Devil’s Dyke and Rottingdean where you can enjoy a traditional English cream tea.

Evening activities

Each week there are at least two evening activities organised in conjunction with the School staff. These may include games evenings, barbecues, sports activities, class events, film nights, quizzes, wine and cheese evenings, traditional English barn dances and many more.

The majority of these activities are free but may in some cases be charged £1 – £12.

Weekend Trips

Each term students have the opportunity to take part in a variety of different weekend trips. Some are free and others cost between £10 and £25. Throughout the year we also offer additional trips which are more expensive, these include trips to Paris, the Warner Brothers – Harry Potter Studio Tour and Thorpe Park.

Students also have an opportunity of visiting Chartwell (home of Sir Winston Churchill), Salisbury and Stonehenge, Portsmouth, Cambridge, Oxford, Bath, Lewes and many more towns and cities in the area.

Trips To London

There are a range of trips available to London. Amongst other activities, students get the opportunity to visit The British Museum, The National Gallery, The Tate Britain, The Tate Modern, The Natural History Museum and The Science Museum.

Students studying for the whole term will be able to visit London included in their course fee. Once there, teachers offer the students a choice of three afternoon options: a visit to the Globe Theatre, a visit to the BBC or a visit to the Houses of Parliament. In the morning, students can visit various sites such as the Imperial War Museum, Tate Modern, Museum of London, the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum.

There is generally one free trip each term for those students studying for more than 8 weeks.
