A Focused English Course for
Young Learners This Winter
Escape the summer crowds. A quieter, more focused English programme for motivated teenagers (13–17) in the heart of Brighton. Small classes, homestay families, and a uniquely British winter experience.
Winter English Course for Teenagers
Our popular International Winter Young Learner course is perfect for teens aged 13 to 17. 12-year-olds can join if their parents allow them to walk to and from school independently. The course is designed to be interactive and enjoyable — to ensure you become confident in speaking English.
We provide a safe, well-structured, and lively environment where there is plenty of laughter and fun. We can guarantee that teenagers really will have a wonderful time!
English Lessons
We offer high-quality English language courses for every level — from beginner to advanced. Our class sizes ensure you'll get individual attention and expert tuition when you study with us.
On your first day, you'll have a placement test and interview so we can put you into the correct level class. We continually monitor your progress, with a revision session every Monday.
Your lessons will focus on improving your English in all key skill areas: speaking, reading, writing, listening, and grammar. You'll also learn about British culture — festivals, education, food, local history, and the places you'll visit on weekend trips.
Note: Teenagers aged 16 or 17 may have classes with adult students if Loxdale considers it appropriate for their English level and maturity.
Communication
Task-based learning and communicative activities give learners practice expressing themselves solely in English.
Culture
Explore British culture through lessons on festivals, education, food, and local history.
Confidence
We work hard to increase each student's confidence and motivation with communicating in English.
Critical Thinking
Our teachers encourage students to question, think for themselves, and use judgement with creativity.
Social Activities
At Loxdale we do more than just English. After your lessons, you'll join our programme of fun and varied afternoon and evening activities. All activities and trips are supervised by our staff.

Student Welfare
The welfare of our students is extremely important to us and we will do all we can to keep students safe and cared for whilst studying at Loxdale. All students have our phone numbers — the School Emergency phone, Accommodation & Welfare Officer, and Principal — so they can always contact us.
Our office doors are always open and the Social Manager meets independent students twice a week to make sure they have everything they need and are happy.

- • School Emergency phone
- • Accommodation & Welfare Officer
- • Principal's direct line
We're here to support your child throughout their stay.
Free Time & Evening Routine
We carefully balance care with giving teenagers some free time to practise English, make friends, and learn about independence. The safest time for free time is after afternoon activities and before dinner. All students must be home for dinner by 6pm.
Stay at School
Continue using school facilities — sports hall, garden, computer room, and social areas.
Return to Homestay
Go home to your host family to relax and practise English in a real home environment.
Explore with Friends
With parental permission and in groups of 3+, explore Portslade, Hove, or Brighton. Beach visits and solo trips are not permitted.
Evening Activities
3 evenings per week: Students return to school for fun activities — team challenges, sports, film nights, and more.
After activities: Parents can book the evening transfer (£30/week) to take students safely home.
Other evenings: Free time with your host family — experience real British family life.
Note: UK shops close around 5:30pm, so our organised activities provide safe evening entertainment.
"We want your child to have a fantastic, fun experience in the UK!"
