English with Health & Wellbeing: Nurture Your Mind & Body
Nurture your mind, body, and English skills — yoga, mindfulness, nutrition workshops, and gardening in the peaceful setting of our Victorian campus.
Step Away to Reflect & Restore
Why not make the most of your time and combine learning English with improving your general health and wellbeing? We are all used to dealing with various levels of stress in our everyday lives. Taking the opportunity to step away for a period to reflect and gain confidence in other skills is a useful way to take a break.
At Loxdale English Centre, you will study on our unique General English course in the mornings. Then, depending on when and how long you choose to study, you will explore different subjects two afternoons each week with specialist practitioners.
By the end of the course, you will be equipped with relaxation techniques that you can use outside of the school environment long after your studies end.
Limited Start Dates
This course has only 4 start dates per year (5 Jan, 13 Apr, 17 Aug, 14 Sep 2026) due to specialist practitioners. If these dates don't suit you, consider our other English Through pathways which have more flexible starts.
Pastoral Support
If you wish to discuss any personal issues in more detail, you can speak to one of our Designated Safeguarding Leads. We also have a professional counsellor available to all students once a month.
We use English and a range of topics to help you increase confidence, build resilience, and express yourself through various techniques.

Therapeutic gardening on the Loxdale campus

Subject Syllabi
Wellbeing and Confidence
This course is designed for you to explore topics that include change, happiness, nutrition, exercise, future studies/work, family issues, personal friendships and social media. We will also be looking at the different ways we express our emotions culturally through language.
Together you will have discussions looking at different points of view using role play, video clips, literature and news articles. The course is not designed to work on your personal problems, rather to look at a range of emotions and scenarios to discuss the difficulties people may experience and look at possible solutions and ways to work through them.
Nutrition
The nutrition course is delivered in two parts across educational blocks. Topics include hydration, proteins (their role, vegetarian and vegan diets), carbohydrates and energy (gluten, complex and simple carbohydrates), fats and oils (saturated vs unsaturated, hydrogenated, which oils to use and when).
You'll also explore digestion and absorption (how it works and how to improve it), balancing pH (why it's important & how to help), the microbiome (gut bacteria & physical & mental health), vitamins & minerals (why we need them and where to get them), the liver and routes of elimination (the body's natural detoxification processes) and an introduction to the Chinese 5 elements system.
Yoga & Yoga Philosophy
This course contains both practical and theoretical elements of Yoga and Yoga philosophy. Students will have the opportunity to learn a range of physical postures, 'Asanas' and their health benefits.
You will learn about Pranayama (breath work practices) and relaxation techniques as well as different aspects of Yoga philosophy theories from ancient to modern day, including Mindfulness Meditation techniques. Students will also discuss the relevance of yoga in the modern world and how it may apply to them.
Please note: As the main learning focus of the wellbeing lessons is not English, these are not accredited by the British Council. However, your morning English lessons are fully accredited.
