During the mornings, students on the English with Art course study General English. This is a lively and interesting course that will help you to communicate confidently and fluently in everyday English. During the English lessons, you will focus on the skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing, allowing maximum time for you to learn and practice new vocabulary, grammar, colloquial English, and idioms.
The art section of this course is over 2 to 3 afternoons each week and consists of lectures, educational visits, and practical work. You are also encouraged to explore your creative potential during your free time by developing a range of photography projects, painting, and/or mixed media skills in response to various ideas and subject matter. It is designed to stimulate your appreciation of the arts while providing a valuable opportunity to practise your English language and art skills with like-minded students and tutors.
As well as developing your personal and theoretical responses to the arts, you will explore a variety of themes and be introduced to a range of processes, styles, and techniques, including sketchbooks, photography, and screen printing. This will enable you to develop your personal and theoretical responses to the arts through various forms of expression and mediums.
Loxdale’s unique teaching programme offers you the chance to personalise your learning experience depending on your academic needs and interests. As part of the course, you will focus in more detail on various aspects of English for four lessons per week. This is called “Applied English,” and you can choose from subjects such as speaking, pronunciation & fluency, grammar, film, art appreciation, business English, creative writing, music & lyrics, etc. If you have B2 level and above, you will have these classes alongside students with C1 and C2 levels. If you have B1+ level of English and below, you will have these classes with your normal class.
As part of our commitment to making study time as stimulating and enlightening as possible, our students enjoy a weekly lecture on a Friday morning, which focuses on various aspects of British life. Popular past lectures have included Homelessness, Things to do in London, British History, HIV and the Terence Higgins Trust, Presentation Techniques, Brighton Music Scene, London Architecture, Street Art, Acupuncture, and Nutrition.
Each Monday afternoon, you will be able to enjoy a 45-minute talk. These lively and interesting talks explore topics such as Stonehenge, London Museums, Brighton Music Venues, St George's Day, Guy Fawkes, Cambridge, The South Downs, and Christmas in Victorian England.
Through our “Britain Today” programme, you will find out more about British society. You will have two lessons each week on different aspects of modern Britain, with subjects including the welfare, educational, political, and legal systems.
One of the advantages of studying at Loxdale English Centre is that your course is about more than just English. We want you to make the most of your time here, and during your course at Loxdale, you will both experience and learn about life in the UK and British culture, as well as personalise your studies—all this at no extra cost! We have a passion for encouraging life-long learning and have designed our unique teaching syllabus over the past 40 years with feedback and input from our staff and students. We are sure you will enjoy it.
Please note, as the main learning focus of the Art lessons is NOT English, these are NOT accredited by the British Council.
