MORE THAN JUST ENGLISH
Accommodation
Accomodation at Loxdale
Loxdale English Centre was founded in 1968, and moved to current site in 1979. The School is located in the middle of a residential area so we are lucky to have plenty of great host families who enjoy looking after our students. All our host families are within a 25 minute walk from Loxdale English Centre and there are also regular buses that go direct to School.
Karen and Jodie, our Accommodation and Welfare Officers, are fantastic at finding the right family for the right student. Karen used to be a host parent herself and has lived in this area for many years so she knows many of our host families well. When choosing hosts they look for families who are warm and welcoming.
Karen and Jodie are also here to help look after you during your time with us, for example, booking doctors or dentist appointments if required. Your welfare is important to us and there are always staff around to offer help and support. All students receive the phone numbers of Anna, the Principal, and Karen to contact in case of an emergency.
Accommodation options:
Homstay Families
One of the best ways to truly emmerse yourself in the culture and language of a county is to choose a homestay option.
Bed & Breakfast / Hotel Accomodation
Some short stay students choose to live in a bed and breakfast or a hotel. Our Accommodation and Welfare Officer is very happy to help make a reservation for you.
The nearest recommended hotels are the Adastral Hotel and Best Western Princes Marine Hotel. Both hotels have easy bus links to both the centre of Brighton and the School for those who do not want to walk. The hotels have comfortable rooms and good facilities. They both have a bar and are situated close to the seafront.
Private Rental / Airbnb
Occasionally students choose to rent their own accommodation. We do not recommend this as it does tend to stop students from speaking as much English as they would if they lived with a host family. However, if a student wishes we are happy to advise about where they might look for their own flat or house. Students should be prepared to have the names and details of at least two people who have known them for a couple of years who can act as referees for prospective landlords. At least one of these should be a past employer or landlord.
