Accommodation & Welfare - Host families

Some of our students choose to stay in hotels or guest houses, however the majority of our students live with our specially selected and monitored host families.

The school has a dining area and kitchen which provides fresh wholesome food (including vegetarian) each day.  A snack bar and a la carte menu is available Mondays to Fridays. With advance notice we can also provide for special diets such as gluten-free, vegan, lactose intolerant or allergies.  For some extreme diets or those with gluten allergies an extra charge may be made.  See the price list for details.

Host family accommodation

We recognise that one of the most important keys to a successful and rewarding stay is that students have a relaxed and welcoming family to stay with.

On your booking form you have the opportunity to put any special requests such as dietary requirements, allergies to pets,  special needs etc. and we also ask you for your interests.  This information then helps our Accommodation and Welfare Officer choose a family suitable for you.  Many of our students stay for a long period and we spend a lot of time selecting the right family for them.

Staying with a family is the best way to get to know a country and its language and is the cheapest option for living in the UK.  It will also give you every opportunity to practice your English in many different social situations.

You will have your own room with sufficient storage areas.  You will be the only student from your own country living in that host family.  Your accommodation is arranged from Sunday to Saturday.

Dining options

Students can choose one of the following options when living with the host family:

  1. Bed & Breakfast. The student only has their breakfast provided by their host family. In this instance students can supply their own lunch to eat at school or can buy lunch from the school dining room. Students can make their own light dinner on a self catering basis at their host family.
  2. Half Board Lunch. The student has breakfast with their host family and a full hot lunch at school. Students can make their own light dinner on a self catering basis at their host family.
  3. Half Board Dinner. The student has breakfast and dinner with their host family. Students then provide their own lunch or can buy lunch from the school dining room.
  4. Full Board. The student has breakfast and dinner with their host family and a full hot lunch at school.

At weekends students on both half board options or the full board option have all meals provided by the host family. Students on the bed and breakfast option have dinner included at weekends.

“There’s a lovely atmosphere at the school and everybody is so nice. There is a big difference between my previous schools and this one. The teachers listen more to the students I think.”
