Specialist Courses - English + Folk Music
Explore the traditional music of Britain and Ireland.
Course date: 25 October (8 weeks)
Combine your English tuition with a programme of traditional folk music on this intensive and highly informative course. You don’t have to be an expert musician. Just listen, learn, practise, perform and have fun!
You will study on our popular General English Course in the mornings. In addition to your English lessons you will have at least 10 music lessons each week. Lessons are conducted in English and provide a valuable opportunity to develop your language skills alongside your music practice.
The course involves an in-depth exploration of folk music through practical and academic work. Study focuses on the traditional music of Britain and Ireland in its musical, historical and cultural contexts. All teachers are highly skilled in the folk music genre and have many years of teaching experience.
Further study in Ireland
At the end of the course at Loxdale you have the choice to attend a further week’s music tuition and practice in Dublin, Ireland. You will have the opportunity to learn, play and perform with experienced British and Irish folk musicians and fellow students.

“Brighton is a great town to study in. You make so many friends and the atmosphere at the school is really very good. The lessons and lectures have been good and it’s nice that there are other subject lessons and courses apart from just English. It gives us a bit extra education. One of my subjects was Practical Media and we’re working on a film.”
