MORE THAN JUST ENGLISH

Homestay

All of us who work in the Accommodation department have children and we know what a responsibility it is to look after other people’s children as well as our own.  We are confident that we would never place your child with a homestay where we wouldn’t also be happy to place our own children.

Loxdale English Centre has been in this area of Brighton since 1979 and we have always organised homestay programmes.  As we’ve been here so long, there is quite a tradition of hosting our students.  Some of our homestays have been working with us for over 20 years.  In fact, some of our original host families now have their grown up children also hosting students.

As part of their training and support, our hosts have our 24 hour telephone number and we give them a handbook packed full of helpful information, contact details and guidance.  All homestays are visited regularly by us and all those who host children also undergo a DBS check.  This is when we police check them to make sure they are suitable to host children.

We know them and they know Loxdale.  Each student is different and each host is different.  Some hosts prefer to have adult students, others prefer to have young learners, some will cater for special diets, some have a cat or a dog and others have no pets.  Some students would like to have a host that caters for a vegan diet, others would like a homestay that has children, others would like a host that doesn’t smoke or has a piano.  There are so many different requests from both the homestay and the student and it is our job to jigsaw the perfect match.  Not all requests are possible but we will do all we can to help if we are able.

With best wishes

Anna

Homestay Families

The majority of our students choose to live with our specially selected and monitored homestay families. All of our host families live within a 25 minute walk of the School.

We recognise that having a relaxed and welcoming family to live with is one of the most important factors to a successful and rewarding stay. Your comfort, happiness and welfare are vitally important to us, and we are committed to making your time in the UK as enjoyable as possible. Many of students stay for a long period and we spend a lot of time selecting the right family. Staying with a family is the best way to get to know a country and its language and is the cheapest option for living in the UK.

On the booking form you have the opportunity to put any special requests such as dietary requirements, allergies to pets, special needs and interests, etc. This information is important to help choose the right family for you.

Your accommodation is arranged from Sunday to Saturday. You will have your own room with sufficient storage areas, and you will be the only student from your own country staying with the family unless you have requested to share with a friend.

Homestay Dining Options

Students can choose one of the following options when living with their homestay family:

The student only has his/her breakfast provided by their host family. In this instance students can supply their own lunch to eat at School or can buy lunch from the School dining room. Students can make their own light dinner on a self catering basis at their host family.
The student has breakfast with their host family and a full hot lunch at School. Students can make their own light dinner on a self catering basis at their host family.
The student has breakfast and dinner with their host family. Students then provide their own lunch or can buy lunch from the School dining room.

At weekends, accommodation is on a Half Board Dinner basis with your homestay family.

School Dining

The School has a dining area and kitchen which provides fresh wholesome food (including vegetarian) each day.

A snack bar and a la carte menu is available Mondays to Fridays. With advance notice we can also provide for special diets such as gluten-free, vegan, lactose-intolerant or allergies. For some extreme diets or those with gluten allergies an extra charge may be made.
