Specialist Courses - English + Folk Music

Combine general English tuition with a stimulating of learning, practising and performing Folk Music.

Course dates: 20 October to 12 December 2007 (8 weeks incl. Dublin)

Students on this course should have played a musical instrument for at least 5 years and be interested in folk music. It is a fun yet intensive course but nobody has to be an expert!

Students study on the General English morning course. See General English section for details. In addition to their English lessons students also have at least 10 music lessons each week. Students are also expected to practice their instrument and prepare work for at least 5 hours per week on a self study basis. The students also put on at least one concert per term.

Students are expected to buy a course book for their English studies.

All teachers have many years of teaching experience and are particularly skillful at working within the folk music genre.

At the end of the course at Loxdale it is also possible to attend a further week’s music tuition and practice in Dublin where students have the opportunity to work with British folk musicians and students.

At the end of the course all students receive a certificate showing the number of hours they have studied and the level they have achieved.

The Autumn course is 6.5 weeks long. Then the students travel to Dublin for 10 days.

“I have been at the school for 23 weeks and have learnt lots of English. I really think my all my skills are good in English. It’s also been great fun to meet so many people that you really get to know well during the term.”
