The Swedish Folk High School background
The Swedish Folk High School is housed in a beautiful Victorian mansion set in its own grounds of over 11,000 square metres. It combines traditional Victorian architecture with modern purpose built classrooms and also has its own conference, sports and dining facilities.
Loxdale offers the perfect setting for any course of study, situated as it is in the tranquillity of Portslade on the south coast of England, with the sea to the south and the rolling Sussex Downs to the north, yet still close to Brighton and Hove City Centre, only a 20 minute bus ride or 10 minute train journey away.
The atmosphere is informal, friendly and professional. There are great opportunities to make new friends and discover new interests during a stay at the School.
Swedish Folk High School
The School was founded in 1968 as a school for adults and moved to its present location at The Loxdale English Centre in 1980, when it became established as a charitable education foundation. Until recently the School taught mainly adult Swedish students, with over 7000 people taking part in courses. The centre is increasingly directing its operations towards working with multi-national groups in order to maximise the use of English.
The Swedish Folk High School provides educationally high quality courses as well as being a modern learning centre with an up-to-date attitude to the process of learning.
In the past we have worked organising and running courses for a variety of different organisations including Swedish members of Parliament, Enskilda Gymnasiet teachers and environmental study work experience groups.
The language teachers have a minimum of 6 years teaching experience and are all qualified in the teaching of English as a foreign language.
For Danish, Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish adult students
Together with Braheskolan, Visingso Folkhogskola in Sweden, Loxdale offers Swedish Folk High School courses for Nordic people through a government grant.
