MORE THAN JUST ENGLISH

Accommodation & Welfare

Loxdale English Centre was founded in 1968, and moved to current site in 1979. The School is located in the middle of a residential area so we are lucky to have plenty of great host families who enjoy looking after our students. All our host families are within a 25 minute walk from Loxdale English Centre and there are also regular buses that go direct to School.

Karen and Jodie, our Accommodation and Welfare Officers, are fantastic at finding the right family for the right student. Karen used to be a host parent herself and has lived in this area for many years so she knows many of our host families well. When choosing hosts they look for families who are warm and welcoming.

Karen and Jodie are also here to help look after you during your time with us, for example, booking doctors or dentist appointments if required. Your welfare is important to us and there are always staff around to offer help and support. All students receive the phone numbers of Anna, the Principal, and Karen to contact in case of an emergency.

Homestay Families

The majority of our students choose to live with our specially selected and monitored homestay families. All of our host families live within a 25 minute walk of the School.

We recognise that having a relaxed and welcoming family to live with is one of the most important factors to a successful and rewarding stay. Your comfort, happiness and welfare are vitally important to us, and we are committed to making your time in the UK as enjoyable as possible. Many of students stay for a long period and we spend a lot of time selecting the right family. Staying with a family is the best way to get to know a country and its language and is the cheapest option for living in the UK.

On the booking form you have the opportunity to put any special requests such as dietary requirements, allergies to pets, special needs and interests, etc. This information is important to help choose the right family for you.

Your accommodation is arranged from Sunday to Saturday. You will have your own room with sufficient storage areas, and you will be the only student from your own country staying with the family unless you have requested to share with a friend.

Other Accommodation

BED & BREAKFAST / HOTEL ACCOMMODATION
Some short stay students choose to live in a bed and breakfast or a hotel. Our Accommodation and Welfare Officer is very happy to help make a reservation for you.

The nearest recommended hotels are the Adastral Hotel and Best Western Princes Marine Hotel. Both hotels have easy bus links to both the centre of Brighton and the School for those who do not want to walk. The hotels have comfortable rooms and good facilities. They both have a bar and are situated close to the seafront.

RENTING YOUR OWN ACCOMMODATION
Occasionally students choose to rent their own accommodation. We do not recommend this as it does tend to stop students from speaking as much English as they would if they lived with a host family. However, if a student wishes we are happy to advise about where they might look for their own flat or house. Students should be prepared to have the names and details of at least two people who have known them for a couple of years who can act as referees for prospective landlords. At least one of these should be a past employer or landlord.

Dining Options

Students can choose one of the following options when living with their homestay family:

The student only has his/her breakfast provided by their host family. In this instance students can supply their own lunch to eat at School or can buy lunch from the School dining room. Students can make their own light dinner on a self catering basis at their host family.
The student has breakfast with their host family and a full hot lunch at School. Students can make their own light dinner on a self catering basis at their host family.
The student has breakfast and dinner with their host family. Students then provide their own lunch or can buy lunch from the School dining room.
The student has breakfast and dinner with their host family and a full hot lunch at School.

At weekends, accommodation is on a Half Board Dinner basis with your homestay family.

School Dining

The School has a dining area and kitchen which provides fresh wholesome food (including vegetarian) each day.

A snack bar and a la carte menu is available Mondays to Fridays. With advance notice we can also provide for special diets such as gluten-free, vegan, lactose-intolerant or allergies. For some extreme diets or those with gluten allergies an extra charge may be made.
